Cardinal George of Chicago today suggested pastors remind parishioners of the election bulletin inserts written and distributed by Illinois' bishops, as the final Sunday before the election draws near.
In a letter sent to all priests in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Cardinal George noted "the principles are not partisan, but the hierarchy of the values they espouse and the evils they condemn is clear and needs to be used by Catholics."
The full text of the letter follows:
"On this last Sunday before the elections, it would be appropriate to draw your parishioners’ attention to the series of statements put out by the CCI and the USCCB and published in the parish bulletins in the last two months. These provide the principles that believing and practicing Catholics should use to form their conscience according to the truths of the faith in matters of social policy. The principles are not partisan, but the hierarchy of the values they espouse and the evils they condemn is clear and needs to be used by Catholics.
"The episcopal vicars and I thank you for your pastoral leadership and your fidelity in teaching the faith."
