It’s Marriage Monday, as the entire program is devoted to redefinition of marriage efforts currently being pushed in the Illinois legislature. Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-Hinsdale, joins host Bob Gilligan to talk about the importance of grassroots advocacy in preserving marriage. Dillard is one of several lawmakers who last year filed an amicus brief in the yet-to-be-heard redefinition of marriage case in Cook County court. The brief states that redefinition of marriage should be decided in the legislature, not the courts.
Next up, Rev. Kirk Clayton of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod tells why he and his church leaders signed an interfaith letter sent to lawmakers on the infringement of religious freedom caused by redefinition of marriage. The letter represents 1,700 faith communities throughout the state. Tim Roder of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops then gives a national perspective of redefinition of marriage efforts. Dave Smith of the Illinois Family Institute wraps up the show by promoting his organization’s Marriage Lobby Day set for Feb. 20 at the state Capitol.
