Cardinal George was joined by members of the newly formed African-American Clergy Coalition today for a press conference to state their opposition to redefinition of marriage legislation. Cardinal George spoke in his role as chairman of the Catholic Conference of Illinois.
Senate Bill 10 changes the state's legal definition of marriage from "between a man and a woman" to "between two persons." The measure has passed the Senate, and is under consideration by the House.

After the press conference, Pastor James Meeks of the Salem Baptist Church of Chicago joined Cardinal George and the other pastors for a brief meeting.
